Rutgers Study on Transportation to Work for People
with Disabilities NEEDS Your Help

The Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers University is conducting a research study for the U.S. Department of Transportation – Federal Transit Administration to better understand the transportation barriers and needs of New Jerseyans with disabilities who are seeking employment and they need your help.
 
If you are a person with a disability searching for a job, Rutgers would like to hear directly from you on this issue and ask that you complete the confidential online survey available at this link:

Anyone completing the survey will be entered in a drawing to win a $100 American Express gift certificate and if you need help completing the survey or want a hard copy of the survey, you can contact Rutgers project manager:Rudger University

What Parents Should Know about Restraints and Seclusion

The Council has a new brochure on What Parents Should Know about the use of Restraints and Seclusion in school settings. It is posted on our Inclusive Education page. You can access it from there, as well as other information about the education of students with developmental disabilities, or click here to go directly to the brochure.

FY-2010 GRANTS

The Council awarded 12 grants this year for innovative projects to promote:

· Business and employment opportunities;
· Outreach to underserved, diversified populations; housing;
· Education for immigrant populations;
· Career and educational mentoring;
· Partnering with domestic violence services;
· Health and fitness; and
· Web-based resources.

BECOMING A COUNCIL MEMBER
Individuals with developmental disabilities, or parents, family members or guardians of people with developmental disabilities, may apply to become a Council member by contacting the Governor's Office of Appointments at 609-777-0251 for an application.

The NJ Council on Developmental Disabilities will continue its mini-grant process. Applicants should know that this is to encourage new and innovative local activity that will result in meaningful benefits for all people with developmental disabilities and their families.
