Families need information. We hear it all the time. They need to know what services are out there. They need to know what strategies others are using to get through the hectic, all-consuming days caring for a son or daughter with developmental disabilities. They need to know what changes to public services are on the horizon so they can adjust their intricate plans. And they need to know that someone understands their need to know. Understands their needs.

Well, the State of New Jersey and the contract agencies that provide services for people with developmental disabilities need to know too. They need to know what YOU know.

There is an easy way to let them know. BUT TIME IS RUNNING OUT.

Take a few minutes to fill out the DD SUPPORTS SURVEY FOR FAMILIES OF INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES.

It can be found on the Council’s web site at:

https://www.njcdd.org/projects/family-support/about-family-support/40-projects/family-support/348-parents-or-family-members-of-individuals-with-i-dd

The deadline is Oct 31.

The survey takes less than a few minutes and is VITALLY IMPORTANT TO PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES LIVING AT HOME WITH THEIR FAMILIES.

It will let those who decide what supports to fund, how many and how much, and where to target those support services, get the information they need so they decide on the best and most effective services to help individuals and families. In these times of tight budgets and shrinking resources this information couldn’t be more important.

They need to hear from you. The right kinds of supports can make all the difference. Those of you who have received the respite, in-home help, day services, therapies, residential support, home modifications and such know well how crucial those services have been.

For those who haven’t had those supports you know how hard it is, day in day out, to get by own your own.

And for those who have not yet needed services you know that need is waiting for your family and your loved somewhere in the future.

The state Division of Developmental Disabilities is asking to hear from you about how that service system should be. Don’t miss this opportunity to make your voices heard. Let them know who you are, what you need and that you are a participating partner in the collective effort to make our communities more supportive and inclusive of people with developmental disabilities.

Take a quick moment in what I know are some of the tightest schedules anywhere. It’s the kind of short term interruption to your busy lives that has the potential for lasting gains on into the future.

Don’t miss out. It will benefit your family and other families thorughout New Jersey.
