SUMMARY:Moving IEP Working Group Recommendations into Practice
DESCRIPTION:Listen\n \n [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1791984287875{padding-top: 15px !important;}”]\nMoving IEP Working Group Recommendations into Practice\nTuesday\, October 27\, 2026\n12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. (Zoom Webinar)\nIn January 2026\, the IEP Working Group—established under P.L. 2025\, c. 107—issued its Final Report on IEP development\, implementation\, and parent involvement\, including a call for statewide protocols that bring student and family voice into the IEP process. This session will look at next steps for implementing the report’s recommendations.\n\nThe session will also examine student-led IEPs and the role peer support can play in helping students prepare for and participate in their meetings. A student-led IEP puts the student at the center of their own planning: instead of listening while adults discuss them\, the student presents their own strengths\, challenges\, goals\, and progress to the IEP team. This builds self-advocacy and self-determination skills and gives students real ownership of their education.\n\nSenate Majority Leader and Caucus Co-Chair M. Teresa Ruiz will lead the session.\nAbout the Caucus\nSince 2020\, the New Jersey Legislative Disability Caucus has served as a bipartisan forum within the New Jersey Legislature for lawmakers and their staff to consider the impact on the disability community when shaping ALL public policies in the Garden State through increased awareness and a greater understanding of the complexities of the disabilities service system and issues affecting individuals with disabilities and their families.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Walking in prepared\, knowing your rights\, and knowing what toask for can make all the difference.Join us for an informative hybrid meeting on how to plan for IEP meetings and how to use the IEP as a tool for transition planning. You can attend virtually or in person…but we strongly encourage you to join us in person!Transition planning begins with the IEP in effect when a student turns 14\, but it is never too early to build strong IEPs and plan for life after high school: education\, employment\, independent living\, and community participation. We welcome parents of ALL school-aged children (ages 3-21) to attend our meeting. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row gap=”0px” css_animation=”none” css=”.vc_custom_1792604314785{padding-top: 25px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1/3″]Download Flyer[/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″]Descargar Volante[/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
