Demystifying Supplemental Security Income

Demystifying Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Date and Time: Tuesday, June 16th from 7pm – 8:30pm
Join us for an informative discussion on Supplemental Security Income (SSI), employment, and public benefits for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Representatives from The Arc of New Jersey and the New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities will provide an overview of how SSI works, how employment can impact benefits, and important considerations for individuals and families navigating work and financial supports.

This session will help break down complex information about SSI and address common misconceptions about working while receiving benefits. Participants will learn about employment-related considerations, available supports and protections, and strategies for making informed decisions about work and benefits planning. There will also be an opportunity for questions and open discussion.

Join us for a conversation with state leaders on supports and services for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). This cross‑department panel will provide an overview of each agency’s role in the service system, highlight current priorities and initiatives, and discuss emerging trends and challenges impacting individuals with I/DD and their families. Panelists will explore how services evolve across the lifespan, from childhood through adulthood, and share insights on opportunities for improved coordination and support.

Este panel interdepartamental ofrecerá una visión general del papel de cada agencia en el sistema de servicios, destacará las prioridades e iniciativas actuales y analizará las tendencias y los desafíos emergentes que afectan a las personas con DI/DD y sus familias. Los panelistas explorarán cómo evolucionan los servicios a lo largo de la vida, desde la infancia hasta la edad adulta, y compartirán perspectivas sobre oportunidades para mejorar la coordinación y el apoyo.
