Outreach Title:

Navigating the Medicaid Maze

Description:

This presentation will address questions and concerns that often arise when parents are planning to collect their own Social Security, and they have a son/daughter who receives DDD services:

  • What happens to the SSI and Medicaid of a person with I/DD when the parent starts to collect their own Social Security retirement benefit?
  • What do parents need to know (including the amount of their son/daughter’s financial assets) to facilitate having a smooth transition to Medicaid from the County Board of Social Services?
  • What should parents do if an unanticipated problem occurs when submitting a new Medicaid application?
  • When does an individual with I/DD start to receive Medicare? What do parents need to know when individuals with I/DD receive both Medicare and Medicaid?
